‘Beating Bipolar’: National Conference June 5, 2010

The APP team invites all members to join us at the 2010 National Conference of MDF the BiPolar Organisation in Birmingham this June.

APP members have been involved in helping to organise the event, which is to be held at The Medical School, University of Birmingham, Edgbaston (opposite Birmingham University Rail Station).  Cardiff University’s Dr. Danny Smith will be making a keynote presentation on the web-based psychoeducation programme ‘Beating Bipolar’, while Prof. Nick Craddock will be leading a forum debate on ‘the Future of Services for people with Bipolar Disorder’.

The latest developments in psychosocial research will be explained by Prof. Jan Scott from Newcastle University, and Lily McPeake from Oxford University will be describing her team’s new monitoring service ‘True Colours’ which is proving very popular with people who have tried it.

Other workshops on offer include: Dr. Ian Jones and MDF trustee Clare Dolman leading discussion on ‘Bipolar and Planning for Pregnancy’; Dr Liz Miller, MIND Champion 2008, on ‘Mood Mapping’; authors Sarah Owen and Amanda Saunders on ‘How Creative Writing can Help to Heal’, and MDF’s Vice-chair Dr Nick Stafford answering questions on medication.

The conference will run from 10am – 4.30pm, with refreshments and lunch included for the subsidised price of £40 (£20 for MDF the BiPolar Organisation members).

We are delighted to support MDF the BiPolar Organisation – the only national charity for people affected by this disorder – in the staging of their conference this year, and hope that you can join us on June 5th for what promises to be a fascinating day – and a great chance to network!
